Our volunteers are at the heart of our work, and we enjoy working alongside them in their roles. Healthwatch York is an amazing organisation to gain experience and insight into the world of health and social care within York.

Our volunteers support us with:

Engagement

Engagement volunteers help run stalls across the city in public venues and at community events. They listen to people’s experiences of health and care, and signpost to local information and support.

Care home visits

Care home assessors are trained volunteers who visit care homes across the city as part of Healthwatch York’s assessors’ programme. The aim is to get a snapshot of the care or nursing home based on their observations, conversations with residents and feedback from staff and residents’ friends/family.

Readability

The Readability Group review new literature and promotional materials for health and social care providers in York and give feedback on the accessibility of those documents.

Research

Research volunteers communicate with York residents to research standards of health and social care. They write and compile research reports, contribute to the Healthwatch York Annual Review, and volunteer on an ad-hoc basis by visiting local health and social care facilities.
